Tell us a little about yourself and your career.
As a child, I was always taken with animated films and television. I grew up in Texas and would leave the theaters inspired after seeing an animated film, and I decided to work hard to improve my skills and become part of the greater whole of artists who create such fantastic stories. I went to college in Oklahoma for graphic design, but spent my after hours grinding on my portfolio and trying to learn from the best. One of my current best friends and mentor found my work through an online gallery, and they introduced me to their AD at the time and the rest is history!
What challenges have you faced in navigating a career in animation?
I learned quickly how to prioritize my health and life outside of the industry, while also putting my best foot forward at my job. I was very lucky that my first team and showrunners also shared the same sentiments; we all looked out for one another, which taught me that it is never necessary to sacrifice one’s health and life for their job. Another struggle is, of course, navigating layoffs and unemployment. I am very grateful for the union and its members for offering support and wisdom in times like these!

Who are your inspirations in the field of animation?
As a Background Artist, I have to thank Laura Price for her YouTube channel. When I had no guidance or any idea how to begin my journey into animation, Laura’s videos were invaluable. I also look up to my first AD, Crista Castro, for her kindness and giving me my first chance when I was green as grass, freshly graduated with no formal animation training prior to my mentorship. And the last one is my mentor and friend Devon Bragg.
What do you hope to accomplish as an artist in the animation industry?
I love animation and being a part of a greater whole. That being said, I hope I can be an artist that encourages younger generations to make sure they have a life outside of it too. Being healthy and happy makes this job even more fun and enriching!
What does being in the Union mean to you?
It’s the lifeline and support system we all need. It means looking out for one another, especially under the behemoth that are entertainment studios. Being a part of a union is one of the things I’m the most proud of.
